Anxiety

I find myself awake in the middle of the night.
Warm body, cold ears alert, ringing with fright,
heart and blood pushing fast against my bones,
body so heavy feeling weighed down by stones

A ball of striped fluff is stretched out right
next to me, body moving up and down so slight.
My love’s eyes tight, snoring, letting out little groans.
I find myself awake

within me? A crash, shake, feeling, moan,
voice, screech, whisper, something unknown.
Scared to close my eyes, terrified to open, covers pulled tight.
I find myself awake
